Housing
There are approximately
470 dwellings in the village with further outlying farms and houses,
of which 85% are owner occupied. There is a wide range of types of housing
reflecting the age of the village, with the last remaining oldest buildings
being of traditional cob with thatched roofs (Nos. 11 and 13 Main St,
heavily restored).
There are other early houses, stone-built in the late
16th century (e.g. No. 10 Main St). The developments in the 1950s and
1960s brought about a significant expansion in housing. Further developments
and conversions of agricultural buildings (such as at Osmington Drove)
took place in the 1980s and 1990s. There have also been developments
at the Old Brickfields in Knighton Lane, and Bakers Paddock, leading
off Main street. The newest buildings, in line with current planning
guidelines and fashion, are reproductions of traditional flint and brick
cottages designed to blend in with the existing architecture.
