Broadmayne and West Knighton Pre-School is a well-established and thriving group which offers pre-school education for local children in its own building, in the grounds of Broadmayne First School.

Jill Moxom, Playleader, and Suzanne Bryant, Play Assistant, aim to provide a regular routine of individual and group activities. These are opportunities for the children to develop new skills amongst companions of their own age, as a gentle introduction to their school education.

'As Playleader, I see pre-school as a special place for children to come and have fun, to experience new things, and to learn through their play. A stepping stone to ‘big school’, it is where new friendships form and lifelong bonds begin for children and their families. '
Jill

Children gain in skill and understanding through their play, especially when they have a chance to share their enjoyment with an adult and to talk about their discoveries. Parents and other carers are always welcome, as they are as much a part of the Pre-School as their children. Many parents volunteer to sit on the management committee, which is vital to the existence of a voluntarily run pre-school. The committee is responsible for the upkeep of the building as well as organising fundraising events to allow the purchase of new equipment. The Pre-School is a provider under the current Government Nursery Grant Scheme, which means it provides free education to eligible four- year olds at morning pre-school sessions. Future plans for the continued development of the Pre-school include an extension to the building to create more space and improved facilities.

The Humpty Dumpty Club for Toddlers welcomes babies, toddlers, and pre-school children with their mum (and ‘mums-to-be’), dad, ‘gran’, grandad, or whoever is taking care of them. The club is about meeting people, making friends, sharing ideas and anxieties too! Everyone shares in the running of the group which includes welcoming newcomers, making the drinks, and fund raising.

Broadmayne and West Knighton Pre-school caters for 17 children at each session.

Sessions run from 9.05 am until 12, Monday to Friday and from 1 pm until 3 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Children may attend (numbers permitting) from age 2 years 9 months until they start school at 4 plus.

The Toddler Group meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 pm until 3 pm. Phil Titterington
