The Youth Club
There has been
a Youth Club in the village for many years. However, after a break of
eighteen months a new club was started in January 1999. It is held on
Thursday evenings from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm in Broadmayne Village Hall
with an outside activity being arranged on one Thursday every month.
The Club is open to everyone aged eleven to sixteen years living in
Broadmayne or West Knighton.

The club is run
by a voluntary youth leader, Kelvin Jury, with the help of a number
of volunteers. The Management Committee can consist of up to eight members
and at present we are actively seeking to recruit new committee members
to swell our ranks. The club is affiliated to The Dorset Youth Association.
The Club Constitution states that the purpose of the youth club is to
offer to individual young people, in their leisure time, opportunities
of various kinds, complementary to those of home and formal education;
to discover and develop their personal resources of body, mind and spirit
and thus better to equip them to live the life of mature, creative and
responsible members of a free society. Since opening, the club has been
very successful with weekly numbers averaging about 25, the numbers
of boys and girls being about the same. Throughout the evening there
is a chance to play pool, table tennis, badminton, listen to music or
just chat to friends. In the summer there is plenty to do outside on
the field – football, cricket, basketball and rounders. Everybody is
always ready for the tuck shop to open. There have also been visitors
to the club to teach archery and rock and roll dancing. In the future
we hope to have more such evenings. On the nights not spent in the village
hall, the activities have included a treasure hunt, a night walk, a
barbecue and campfire.
