Broadmayne Walking Group

The Broadmayne Walking Group was started by Hilary McVey and Freddie Booker because a number of people felt it was not wise to walk alone in isolated places (sadly even in Dorset). Walks are advertised in the Parish Magazine (Compass) each month, and there is no formal membership or fee. Anyone who would enjoy a walk of about seven miles is welcome.

Our first walk, in January 1992 took us to Winterborne Came, Whitcombe and West Knighton. Since then we have explored many different areas of our beautiful countryside, led by different members of the group. We are so fortunate to have coastal, woodland, riverside and heathland walks within easy reach of Broadmayne. Over the years we have only had to cancel walks on one or two occasions due to rain, but we have sometimes had to hang on to our wellies in the mud! Amazingly, even in winter, we have found sheltered corners in which to enjoy a picnic.

Numbers vary between six and twenty two. What a lovely way to keep fit!
