Broadmayne
Methodist Church
Built
in 1865 at a cost of about £300, the building was registered
as a place of worship in 1867 and licensed for marriages in
1919. The schoolroom was erected in 1921 at the rear of the
church and was used not only for Sunday School work, but for
the sisterhood, mid-week fellowship, church business meetings,
etc.
The Methodist
Church in Broadmayne, like many small village societies has
had its low points, and in fact during the 1980s, was near
to closing. However, as we approach the end of the twentieth
century and after a lot of work and self-help by volunteers,
the interior of both the church and schoolroom have been refurbished,
and electrics brought up to date to comply with the latest
legal requirements for buildings of this type and use. Now,
under the ministry of the Reverends Barrie Snook and David
Bumphrey, attendance at services has improved and averages
about fifteen. So, as we approach the new Millennium, we believe
the Methodist Church has a future in the village and will
continue its work for God and the wider Christian World for
many years to come.
