Handheat
We moved from Christchurch into
Broadmayne in 1979 when my wife, Irene , became caretaker of Broadmayne
School. At the time I was employed as a boiler service engineer
but was made redundant in 1982 when the firm I worked for lost its
contract with the County Council.
Following this I decided to ‘test the
water’ and start my own company. Initially we were supported by
my wife’s income until my new business became a viable proposition.
I have now been in operation for seventeen years, servicing oil
and gas fired boilers and have carried CORGI (the Nationally approved
authority for boiler maintenance) registration for the last fifteen
years. Handheat provides both a domestic and commercial service
across Dorset. I have now been trading from 7, Conway Drive for
the past twelve years. My wife has recently left the New Inn, West
Knighton after ten years as a barmaid and she now takes the responsibility
for much of the business administration for the company.
Both our daughters attended the village
school and my youngest now runs Nordale Farm Shop with her husband.
My eldest daughter has just started her first job after gaining
a computing and electronics degree at Bournemouth University.
